Wedding Etiquette: Giving Notice

In one of my last posts I talked about the reading of banns. However, another legal requirement, ‘giving notice’, also formalises you and your partner’s intention to wed. So whether you’re going to marry in a church or registry office, you are required to visit your local register office and give them the information of where you will marry and identification documents.

You will complete some documents together with a registrar, and these will be displayed for 15 days at the registry office. You need to give at least 15 days before your wedding and no more than 12 months in advance.
